MARLON is a Sri Lankan-born artist based in Melbourne, Australia, and the founder of NeoSync.
His style is a rare fusion of neo-expressionism and realism, developed and defined by him as Neo-Synchronism. Working in mixed media, building up layers of acrylic and oils on canvas, and in their digital echoes, he builds emotive characters through expressive brushwork and intense colour.
The aim is an emotional experience rather than a likeness: art that is colourful yet dark, attractive yet unsettled. Recurring in the work is the space behind a smile, the reality of what a face keeps hidden.
I'm a Christian, and my convictions shape the way I paint.
Every character I make carries the same thing I find in myself. We are made beautifully, in the image of God, and we are broken. I paint the smile and the storm behind it because I know both. I have my own struggles and my own addictions. None of these faces are an accusation. They are recognition.
But brokenness is not the end of it. God showed His love by giving His only Son, Jesus, to carry what we could not carry ourselves. That is why this work is not despair. Beneath the colour and the chaos there is assurance: we are loved, we are sought, and we can be made whole.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Beneath the colour runs one conviction: that each of us is made beautifully, in the image of God, yet broken and sinful within. We suffer, we struggle, and we wait, to be repaired, to be healed, to be saved.
Every piece begins with a feeling and ends as a character: a face carrying more than it shows, beauty and brokenness held together, a soul waiting to be made whole. The intention is not to depict a person, but to move the one looking.
